In August 2012, I visited the Botanical Garden of the Free University of Amsterdam to meet up with its curator Geralt Joren, who had been my teacher during the Professional Dutch Floral Design School.
Of course I wouldn’t miss the opportunity of visiting my teacher after having travelled so far!
Geralt is a unique teacher who is very preoccupied and involved with his students’ learning process. He never left us in doubt, even if he was off his working hours, and he always shared his knowledge with us the best he could.
We were all very happy when we arrived at that wonderful place. I saw Geralt Joren quickly and he came to meet us with a smile. He the took us for an tour of the garden which wonderful.
As he showed us the garden he gave us a lesson on the species found there.
I have never seen so many types of Hydrangeas! They were huge and lovely!!
He took us to the Cactus Garden. This was very interesting, there where varieties taller than I!
There is a place only for Bonsais.
There is a stream which passes through the Garden with a lot of Nymphaea. What a wonderful sensation!
Later, Geralt invited us to his office, where he works amongst hundreds of books.
Later he took us to his laboratory where he shared with us some of his creations.
To be there and to receive so much information was truly wonderful!
After this wonderful trip and having confirmed my opinion that Geralt is an amazing teacher, I decided to share my experience with all of you!
Geralt has been invited and will be teaching at ETAF on March 26th trough the 29th to give a cycle of 2 workshops, Arrangements for the Different Seasons of the Year and Table Decorations.
Now I am back at the hotel and look at that sun!
On this day my sun was the visit I made to Geralt Joren, my dear professor.
To be here and to receive so much information is lovely!
